Instructors dance reviews.  Intermediate/Advanced Page 2
Over the last 2 years Teresa has been compiling dance reviews from various instructors.
It has slowly grown from just a handful to 97.   These reviews are sent to everyone on
the list & Linedancer magazine.  We are now sharing the information with everyone
& hope that you find it useful.

Many thanks to all the instructors who have contributed to these reviews.

On these 2 pages you will see the opinions of many instructors throughout the UK & aboard on
the many dances that have been taught, reviewed or just danced in there classes. They are in
no particular order, just as they come in, they have not been edited other than to make sure
there is nothing offensive in the content, & to remove club names & area's.  These are
honest views from the instructors.       If anyone would like to join the review list
please email Teresa for more information at this address   [email protected]

Please note: What some instructors may think of as intermediate others may not, we have just
put the reviews on as they come in, in whatever category that instructor thought fit

Much Too Young - Gary Lafferty music Garth Brooks
Not a bad little dance for improvers - tricky bit is the monteray touch and coaster step. Music 7/10 Dance 7/10

Come to Me - Maggie G music Atomic Kitten
Every body liked this dance and the music too.  Was not as hard for people to get as expected.
Music 9/10 Dance 9/10

The Real World- Ruthie B music D Side
1 restart on wall 5.  Lovely waltz with a different `feel`.  Music is a bit reminiscent of a modern Enya (I least I think it is)  Some nice rondes in it giving the oportunity for some styling.  Took a few sessions to teach before everyone could remember it.  Didn`t have difficulty learning, just retaining in the grey matter.  One of the favourites with the class at the moment.  Music 9/10 Dance 9/10

Poetry in Motion - Masters in Line music Liberty X
This is really taking off in our area and everyone who has seen it danced wants to learn it.  It appears harder than it actually is - what makes it difficult is the timing and remembering which wall you are on.  Lovely dance, well crafted.  Music 9/10 Dance 10/10

Time to Ride - Masters in Line music Liberty X

Good `funky` dance which can be danced with attitude.  Fairly fast but our more advanced dancers love it.  Music 9/10 Dance 9/10

Chocolatte - Yvonne Anderson music David Civera
Had heard a lot about this one and was very disappointed that it did not live up to expectations.  The class liked the music but not the dance.  The stamp clap clap to start the new walls stops the flow of the dance.  Received a very mixed reception - will see if it grows on people in class.
Dance 5/10 Music 7/10

Sube Amore - sorry don`t know the choreog. o music
Learnt this one at another class and the instructor didn`t say who had choreographed or who the music was by and I didn`t get chance to ask.
Fast dance to a fairly long track and it took some time to teach but the majority of people attending the class stuck with it and most seemed to like it.  You have to concentrate to remember where you are in the dance but worth it. Music 7/10 dance 8/10

Out the Door - done at the same class/workshop - again don`t know who by.
The music wasn`t too bad but the dance seemed very slow and it wasn`t too well accepted.  Most folk gave it the thumbs down.

Baila Casanova Choreographed by Peter Metelnick & Alison Biggs Music:Casanova by Paulina Rubio Area Taught: North Somerset
Delayed teaching this until 2 weeks ago because we seemed to have taught somany dances to Spanish/Latin music.  2 restarts and 2 tags within the first
4 walls lead to a few groans but they are quite obvious once you are
familiar with the music.

Fork in the Road Choreographed by Michele Perron Music Streetwalker byMichael Jackson Area Taught: North Somerset
I like the music for this one and I wanted a dance for the Intermediates
that wasn't too long or complicated. Also recommended by some who had learntit at one of Maggie's events last year.  I think this will be liked by those
who like the funky dances.

Cry - Choreographer: Martin Ritchie. Music: Cry Just A Little Bit - Shakin' Stevens
32 counts and aimed at the easy intermediates, this has quickly become a firm favourite even with the mid to high intermediates in class. Comments were that they enjoyed this much more than last week (week 1) as they are now comfortable knowing where the 3 easy tags come in. Great, singalong track and some nice step sequences.  Love this one.  9/10 music and dance.

Mess Around - Choreographer: Robbie McGowan Hickie.  Music: A Rockin' Good Way - Shakin' Stevens & Bonnie Tyler
Very popular in all classes now with an easy dance to an upbeat track of music. 48 counts and no extras make this achievable by all levels from improver onwards. Fills the floor.  8/10 music and dance. Notts area

Mariana Mambo - Choreographer: Kate Sala.  Music: Mariana Mambo - Chayanne
Despite some initial  controversy regarding the script re count in and interpretation of the "paddle" turns at the end of the dance, this is nevertheless a smashing dance and great piece of music. It is now established that the dance does begin 32 counts in - before the vocals. Hopefully this will now stop the confusion that had been happening on dance floors at socials. Some are dancing the final 4 steps as pivot turns, others as paddles. We are "paddling" in accordance with step sheet. Whatever way you dance it, dance it - as it's a great dance and our classes love it. 9/10 music and dance. Notts area

A Little Too Late - Andrew, Simon & Sheila.  Music: Don't Tell Me You're Sorry - S-Club 8
For mid intermediates onwards, this is a brilliant little dance. The last 12 steps make it very difficult for most people below that level and we do get a few drop outs after the first couple of walls. Those who are capable of it, love it.  Really funky dance with good music and plenty to keep the mind (and feet) active!! Recommended. 9/10 Notts area

Hot Tamales - Choreographer: Neil Hale.  Music: Country Down To My Soul - Lee Roy Parnell
Decided to re-teach this for the benefit of the newer dancers who hadn't done it first time around and was amazed at the response. Huge cheer of delight by many who
had done it before but never been taught it thoroughly and relished the idea of learning it properly for the first time.  Everybody picked it up easily and threw themselves into it with gusto.  So glad we did this one again.  Big success!! 9/10 music and dance. Notts area
Choices (Pim Humphreys) - "In A Letter To You" by Eddy Raven (or Shakin' Stevens)
Taught this dance to my daytime class and it's gone down really well, they initially struggled a little on the heel jack section but are OK with that now. Initially used the Eddy Raven track, but as I had Shaky's version I asked them if they wanted to also try it to that track and they said yes, and have now elected to only use the Shaky version (think they're secretly Shaky fans!). Score 10/10 Area: Norfolk

Much Too Young (Gary Lafferty) - "Much Too Young" by Garth Brooks
Decided to teach this one this week to three of my classes and a big hit in all three classes, nothing too tricky but a couple of different combination of moves in there that make it that little bit different. Everyone agreed it was a gorgeous track, as well as it being a nice dance. I personally quite like this one so pleased it went down well in my classes. Score 10/10 Area: Norfolk

Black Betty (Crazy Chris Adams) - "Black Betty" by Tom Jones or Glenn Rogers
I had been wanting to teach this dance since I first learnt it back in October, personally I love it. After having problems getting the correct CD finally got Glenn's version so I was able to teach it to my Intermediate class. I did manage to get one Tom Jones version so used that first and then Glenn's version, verdict was they preferred Glenn's version, so that's the only one we us now. It was a really big hit with the class, they all said they loved it, only tricky bit for them was the kick, turn, hitch, tap tap.... but have now got use to the timing of that. Third week of it this week and very little reminder needed for them. Score 10++++ Area: Norfolk.

In-Vince-Ible (Peter Metelnick & Alison Biggs) - "Young Man's Town" by Vince Gill
Been meaning to teach this dance for a while but as most of my class members had been learning it in other classes at the club never got round to it, finally have done for those that didn't already know it, and they love it. Taught it to another class of mine that didn't already know it and they too loved it. Lovely flowing dance that fits great to a gorgeous country track. Although the side, close, kick sections are a bit of a challenging to my dancers, personally I love this section, it feels really great once you've mastered it, and my dancers are certainly getting there on this section now. Score 10+ Area: Norfolk

Leave Right Now (Mark & Jan Caley) - "Leave Right Now" by Will Young
Taught this in two classes so far, one being an intermediate class and who had no problems with it, the other being an improver/low intermediate class who initially found the timing a little tricky to get to grips with but got there are a couple of goes with the music and all saying that now after the 3rd week they now feel they can just dance it without having to think about the counts. A big hit with both classes, so from improvers right through to advanced dancers. Score 10/10 Area: Norfolk

ELLIOT'S DREAM  choreographed by Ann Wood. MUSIC: I Love to Boogie - T-Rex
Easy teach and was very popular. Tried it to longer track by Glam2000 but
T-Rex won hands down. Requested by both beginners and intermediates at
social. Floor split with Prairie Strut. 10/10 dance. 10/10 music Stroud area

JOE'S PLACE choreographed by Robbie McGowan Hickie MUSIC:Joe's Place by Joe Nichols
Wanted to do this for ages as I love it. Glad my intermediates agree with me
as it will stay around a long time. Easy teach and was very popular. Floor
split with easier dance of the same name.
10/10 dance. 10/10 music Stroud area
 Still requested a lot
